Honoring Juneteenth

Today is Juneteenth, which commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned they were free (and had been for 30 months). While Juneteenth is not the only emancipation day celebrated in the United States, it has become the most popular.

A Movement, Not A Moment

Whether you’re in the streets or at home, we have actions for you this week. We also have three resources we want to highlight at the top that provide direct support to black people. 

  1. Blackline is “a 24-hour hotline geared towards the Black, Black LGBTQI, Brown, Native and Muslim community." They “provide people with an anonymous and confidential avenue to report negative, physical, and inappropriate contact with police and vigilantes.”

  2. Donate to dozens of bail funds in one go through ActBlue. 

  3. The Loveland Therapy Fund covers the cost of therapy for black women and girls, making it accessible.
